Childcare in a Crisis: You Don’t Have to Carry It Alone

Working as a childminder is unlike almost any other profession.
Your workplace is your home. The children in your care become part of your daily life. Families trust you with their most precious people. And when life throws something unexpected your way, illness, bereavement, family pressures, inspections, financial worries, or emotional burnout, there’s often no clear line between work and personal.
Crisis doesn’t arrive neatly outside working hours.
It turns up while you’re preparing snacks. During nap time. On the school run. In the middle of planning activities. And somehow, you’re still expected to show up with patience, warmth, and stability for the children who depend on you.
That’s a heavy load to carry.
Many childminders tell us the same thing.“I don’t feel like I can stop.”“There’s no HR department.”“I don’t want to worry parents.”“I don’t know who to talk to.”
And that’s exactly why spaces for honest, real life conversations matter.
A podcast made specifically for childminders
If you haven’t yet discovered the Mind That Childminder Podcast, we genuinely encourage you to take a listen.
This isn’t polished theory or generic wellbeing advice. It’s real experiences, practical conversations, and supportive discussions created specifically for childminders by people who understand the role from the inside.
Charlotte, the host, creates a thoughtful, professional, and compassionate space where important topics are explored openly. From mental health and confidence to navigating difficult moments in childcare, the podcast covers things many of us feel but don’t always say out loud.
There’s some truly amazing content on there, and we’re grateful for the work Charlotte does to support our sector.
A conversation about crisis and mental health
Charlotte recently invited Emma Muir, childminder and co founder of Nurture Co, to feature on her latest episode, published today.
Together they talk honestly about navigating crisis as a childminder, particularly when children are entwined with your home and home life. The episode explores how to process difficult situations, where to find support, and how to keep moving forward when things feel overwhelming.
It’s not about having all the answers.
It’s about recognising that challenges happen, that emotional weight is real in this profession, and that support matters.
We’re incredibly grateful to Charlotte for welcoming Emma onto the podcast and for creating such a safe, professional space for these conversations.
You don’t have to be strong all the time
At Nurture Co, we believe that confident childcare doesn’t come from pretending everything is fine.
It comes from community. From shared experience. From learning together. From knowing you’re not alone.
Whether you’re facing a personal crisis, professional uncertainty, or simply feeling exhausted by the demands of the role, please remember: support exists, and your wellbeing matters just as much as the children you care for.
We strongly encourage you to listen to this episode and explore the Mind That Childminder Podcast. Follow Charlotte’s work, share episodes with colleagues, and allow yourself the space to reflect and reconnect.
This podcast was created for you.
